Reason and inspiration for the work;

Tandle Hill was formally a hunting park for the Thornham Estate. After passing through a few hands Mr. Norris Bradbury gave Tandle Hill to the people of Royton as thanks for the piece with the end of the first World War. It was designated a country park in 1971.

Robert has been inspired to paint views of the park many times in the past, it has changed over the years as this painting from 1983 proves. Where the People are enjoying the snow is now a fully wooded area and the cotton mills in the picture have now disappeared.
