Reason and inspiration for the work;

This view of the Royal George Mills Pond is from Well-I-Hole Road Greenfield. The pond was once a reservoir for the water required for the steam engine that powered the mill. Although it is primarily an industrial landscape Robert thought it had a certain ascetic value.
