A Winter Pasture - Delph
Approximately 4 miles from where Robert lives is the picturesque Saddleworth village of Delph. Rising up from the main street is a country lane called Stoneswood Road, a number of private houses and farms are along there. Recently Robert was travelling along this lane on a very cold day and saw this lonely but seemingly content horse - it suggested to Robert that the horse was typical of ‘we shall put up with the weather no matter what’ attitude of the Saddleworth folk and decided to try to capture that in a painting.
